Ointment manufacturing at 9M India employs specialised semi-solid manufacturing equipment. Jacketed planetary mixers with heating capability for base melting and API incorporation at controlled temperatures. Triple roller mills for micronisation and uniform dispersion of insoluble APIs in hydrophobic bases. Vacuum homogenisers for high-shear mixing with air-exclusion — critical for sterile ophthalmic ointment preparation and formulations sensitive to oxidation. All equipment is validated and cleaned under documented protocols.

Topical analgesic ointments for musculoskeletal and joint pain — Diclofenac ointment (NSAID), Methyl salicylate with Menthol (counterirritant), and combination topical analgesic formulations. Base selection — petrolatum, polyethylene, lanolin and combination bases — is optimised for penetration and patient acceptability.

Ophthalmic ointments are manufactured under aseptic conditions using sterile bases and APIs — with the additional manufacturing controls required for ocular preparations. Products include Chloramphenicol eye ointment (antibiotic), ophthalmic lubricating ointments and corticosteroid ophthalmic ointments. Ophthalmic ointments are filled in sterile aluminium tubes with cannula nozzles and tested for sterility, particle size, drug release and clarity before release.

Wound care ointments for burns and skin repair — Silver sulfadiazine ointment for infected burns, Zinc oxide ointment for healing and barrier protection, and combination antimicrobial wound care formulations. Anti-infective combination ointments (Antibiotic + Steroid + Antifungal triple combinations) are manufactured to validated uniformity of all three active components.
